The Pittalew gallery lives beneath their teak-wood house. This simple, yet beautiful house, designed by Sa-Ard himself, sits at the foot of one of the mountains that surrounds the Pai-valley creating its unique climate. I could be in a different world altogether. The bamboo provides a great shade from the heat of the sun and a great ingredient for my favourite curry (at the right time of the year). There are also papaya, mango, banana, jackfruit, and lychee trees. A lazy river passes through about 30 feet from the house. A paddle in the cool water to the west will take you into Mae Hee and, to the east, up into the mountains. Pack a tent and some food and you’ll be able to see one of the beautiful waterfalls of Pai. Occasionally, a traveler passes thorough and Sa-Ard has the opportunity to show off some of his work. He arranges a party here once a month during the tourist season. His work along with other local artists is put on display for all those that come along. Fire-shows and live music keep the crowd entertained until around midnight when the lights are switched off and we are left with a stunning display of stars.

It is a paradise here. I sometimes wonder how anyone could ask for more. For Sa-Ard and his family, however, it is a different story. To get the attention that his work deserves his gallery must become more accessible. What better way than the world-wide-web?
